I

Meu Caro Amigo - Chico Buarque / Francis Hime

Meu Caro Amigo
Chico Buarque

Uns dias chove, noutros dias bate sol

Muita mutreta pra levar a situação

A lhe contar as novidades

Uns dias chove, noutros dias bate sol

Eu ando aflito pra fazer você ficar

Uns dias chove, noutros dias bate sol

Muita careta pra engolir a transação

Meu caro amigo eu bem queria lhe escrever

Uns dias chove, noutros dias bate sol

Adeus

Fado Tropical - Chico Buarque

Fado Tropical
Chico Buarque
Composição : Chico Buarque/ Ruy Guerra

Oh, musa do meu fado,
Oh, minha mãe gentil,
Te deixo consternado
No primeiro abril,

Alecrins no canavial,
Licores na moringa:
Um vinho tropical.
E a linda mulata

E as minhas mãos o golpe duro e presto,
De tal maneira que, depois de feito,
Desencontrado, eu mesmo me contesto.

Ostento a aguda empunhadora à proa,
Mas meu peito se desabotoa.

E se a sentença se anuncia bruta
Mais que depressa a mão cega executa,
Pois que senão o coração perdoa".

Guitarras e sanfonas,
Jasmins, coqueiros, fontes,
Sardinhas, mandioca
Num suave azulejo
E o rio Amazonas
Que corre trás-os-montes
E numa pororoca
Deságua no Tejo...

Frank Sinatra - New York New York

Frank Sinatra New York, New York

In 1980, New York New York was recorded by Frank Sinatra, for his album Trilogy: Past Present Future (1980), and has since become closely associated with him. He occasionally performed it live with Minnelli as a duet. Sinatra recorded it a second time in duet with Tony Bennett for his 1993 album Duets.

The first line of the song is:

Start spreadin' the news, I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it: New York, New York.
The song concludes with the line:
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere,
It's up to you, New York, New York.

Minnelli's original recording of the song uses the following closing line

If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere,
Come on come through, New York, New York.

It should not be confused with the song "New York, New York", from Leonard Bernstein/Adolph Green/Betty Comden's musical On the Town, which features the lyric "New York, New York, is a helluva town / The Bronx is up and the Battery's down..."

Composers Kander and Ebb stated on the A&E Biography episode about Liza Minnelli that they attribute the song's success to actor Robert De Niro, who rejected their original theme for the film because he thought it was "too weak."

The song did not become a popular hit until it was picked up in concert by Frank Sinatra during his performances at Radio City Music Hall in October 1978. Subsequently, Sinatra recorded it in 1979 for his 1980 Trilogy set (Reprise Records), and it became one of his signature songs. The single peaked at #30 in June 1980, becoming one of his final hits on the charts. Sinatra made two more studio recordings of the song in 1981 (for his NBC TV special The Man and His Music) and 1993 (for Capitol Records). From the latter, an electronic duet with Tony Bennett was produced for Sinatra's Duets album.

The lyrics of the Sinatra versions differ slightly from Ebb's original lyrics. Notably, the phrase "A-number-one," which does not appear at all in the original lyrics, is sung twice at the song's rallentando climax. (Ebb has said he "didn't even like" Sinatra's use of "A-number-one." [1]) The phrase is both the first and fourth on a list of four superlative titles the singer strives to achieve — "A-number-one, top of the list, king of the hill, A-number-one" — where Ebb's original lyrics were closer to "king of the hill, head of the list, cream of the crop, at the top of the heap."

New York is the most populous city in the United States, and the center of the New York metropolitan area, which is one of the most populous urban areas in the world. A leading global city, New York exerts a powerful influence over worldwide commerce, finance, culture, fashion and entertainment. As host of the United Nations headquarters, it is also an important center for international affairs. The city is often referred to as New York City to differentiate it from the state of New York, of which it is a part.

Located on a large natural harbor on the Atlantic coast of the Northeastern United States, the city consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. The city's 2008 estimated population exceeds 8.3 million people, and with a land area of 305 square miles (790 km2), New York City is the most densely populated major city in the United States. The New York metropolitan area's population is also the nation's largest, estimated at 18.8 million people over 6,720 square miles (17,400 km2). Furthermore, the Combined Statistical Area containing the Greater New York metropolitan area contained 22.155 million people as of 2008 Census estimates, also the largest in the United States. New York was founded as a commercial trading post by the Dutch in 1624. The settlement was called New Amsterdam until 1664 when the colony came under English control. New York served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790. It has been the country's largest city since 1790.

Many districts and landmarks in the city have become well-known to outsiders. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Wall Street, in Lower Manhattan, has been a dominant global financial center since World War II and is home to the New York Stock Exchange. The city has been home to several of the tallest buildings in the world, including the Empire State Building and the twin towers of the former World Trade Center.

The City is the birthplace of many cultural movements, including the Harlem Renaissance in literature and visual art; abstract expressionism (also known as the New York School) in painting; hip hop, punk, salsa, disco and Tin Pan Alley in music; and is the home of Broadway theater.
The Capital of the world, Gotham, and the Big Apple.

Indiana Nomma canta Insensatez

Insensatez
Tom Jobim
Composição : Antonio Carlos Jobim / Vinicius de Moraes

A insensatez que você fez
Coração mais sem cuidado
Fez chorar de dor
O seu amor
Um amor tão delicado
Ah, porque você foi fraco assim
Assim tão desalmado
Ah, meu coração que nunca amou
Não merece ser amado

Vai meu coração ouve a razão
Usa só sinceridade
Quem semeia vento, diz a razão
Colhe sempre tempestade
Vai, meu coração pede perdão
Perdão apaixonado
Vai porque quem não
Pede perdão
Não é nunca perdoado

Caminhos Cruzados - Caetano Veloso

Ah, deixai-me dizer-vos
Sobremodo pertinaz é estarem a caveira e a coluna vertebral
A 37 graus centígrados, podendo eventualmente provocar queimaduras
Do primeiro grau.
O embriagante mel; e cante sempre o inaudível canto

Here Comes The Rain Again

Here comes the rain again-
Falling on my head like a memory,
Falling on my head like a new emotion.

I want to walk in the open wind.
I want to talk like lovers do.
I want to dive into your ocean.
Is it really with you?

Chorus-
So baby talk to me
Like lovers do.
Walk with me
Like lovers do.
Talk to me
Like lovers do.

Here comes the rain again-
Raining in my head like a tragedy,
Tearing me apart like a new emotion.
I want to breathe in the open wind.
I want to kiss like lovers do.
I want to dive into your ocean.
Is it really with you?

*Chorus

So baby talk to me
Like lovers do.

Here it comes again.

Here comes the rain again-
Falling on my head like a memory,
Falling on my head like a new emotion.

Here it goes again.
Here it goes again.

I want to walk in the open wind.
I want to talk like lovers do.
I want to dive into your ocean.
It is really with you.

Here comes the rain again-
falling on my head like a memory,
falling on my head like e new emotion.

I want to walk in the open wind.
I want to talk like lovers do.
I want to dive into your ocean.
Is it really with you?

Here comes the rain again-
Falling on my head like a memory,
Falling on my head like a new emotion.

L'Appuntamento

Spuntare in lontananza
Io non me ne voglio andare.
Luci, macchine, vetrine, strade tutto quanto

Me resta esperar
Eu olho pra dentro de mim e me pergunto
O dia morre lentamente.
Nada me resta a não ser voltar pra minha casa
Pra minha vida triste
Amor, me perdoe, mas não resisto
Agora para sempre eu não existo
Não existo, não existo.

You who reside in the temple of Kamakoti
Rescue me
Bearing lotus and veena
In your beautiful hands
You give truth to speech
Your feet are worshipped by Emperors and Kings
Your eyes are as wild as Rajva flowers
Any your beauty bewitches

Garlanded with gems
You fullfil the desires of the good
Indra himself bows down before you
I, Vasudeva, am your servant
For you are the divine word in its essence

Lyrics (Sanksrit):

Susheela Raman's first solo album "Salt rain" was an outstanding debut that won the BBC Best Newcomer Award 2002. She was also shortlisted for the UK Mercury Prize, - Britain's foremost reward to new artists with distinct creative ability -, thus becoming the first world music artist to figure for this prestigious award. "Salt Rain" is by far one of the best fusion albums you can get. The tracks are sung in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Sanskrit

As an artist, Susheela Raman continues to develop and explore issues of identity with new sounds that celebrate multiplicity. She draws her collaborators from across Europe, Asia, and Africa: Cameroonian bassist Hilaire Penda, Guinea-Bissau born percussionist Djanuno Dabo, American drummer Marque Gilmore, British-Asian tabla player Aref Durvesh, and of course British guitarist and producer Sam Mills are at the heart of this album as they were on "Salt Rain".

Susheela: "We were lucky to collaborate with some unique musicians who live mostly in London and Paris but are of diverse origins: Guinea Bissau, Cameroun, India, Romania, France, Greece, Egypt, Kenya, America, and Spain. Any record is a meeting of many minds and, now more than ever, it is networks of people, not just individuals, that spark new and exciting work. Everyone brought their own special energy to the music and I am very proud of what we all worked together to create."

Musicians:
Susheela Raman (Voice, Tanpura)
Sam Mills (Guitar, Producer)
Hilaire Penda (Bass, Backing Vocals, Acoustic Bass Solo on Nagumomo)

Sister, you've been on my mind
Sister, we're two of a kind
So, sister, I'm keepin' my eye on you.

I betcha think I don't know nothin'
But singin' the blues, oh, sister,
Have I got news for you, I'm something,
I hope you think that you're something too

Scufflin', I been up that lonesome road
And I seen alot of suns going down
Oh, but trust me,
No-o low life's gonna run me around.

So let me tell you something Sister,
Remember your name, No twister
Gonna steal your stuff away, my sister,
We sho' ain't got a whole lot of time,
So-o-o shake your shimmy Sister,
'Cause honey the 'shug' is feelin' fine.

Try To Remember

Composição: Indisponível

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh
so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow.
Try to remember and if you remember
then follow
follow.

Try to remember when life was so tender
When noone wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
When dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender
When love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember and if you remember
then follow
follow.

Deep in December it's nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
Without a hurt the heart will hollow.
Deep in December
it's nice to remember
The fire of September that made you mellow.
Deep in December our hearts should remember and follow
follow.

All'alba quando spunta il sole,
Là nell' Abruzzo tutto d'or,
Le properose campagnole,
Discendono le valli in fior.
Là...Là...Là...Là...Là...
Oh campagnola bella,
Tu sei la reginella,
Negliocchi tuoi c'è il sole,
C'è il colore delle viole,
Delle valli tutte in fior.
Se canti, la tua voce,
È un'armonia di pace,
Che se diffonde e dice:
Se voi vivere felice devi vivere quassù
Là...Là...Là...Là...

Quand'è la festa del, paesello
Cona la sua cesta se ne và,
trotterellando l'asinello,
La porta verso la città

Oh campagnola bella,
Tu sei la reginella,
Negliocchi tuoi c'è il sole,

Delle valli tutte in fior.
Se canti, la tua voce,

Ma poi la sera, al tramontare
Con le sue amiche se ne và,
E tutta inmtenta a raccontare,
Quel che ha visto là in città.

Oh campagnola bella,
Tu sei la reginella,
Negliocchi tuoi c'è il sole,

Mikhail Baryshnikov - Don Quixote

Don Quixote variation with cups by Mikhail Baryshnikov

Adagio in G Minor (Albinoni)

Enjoy this beautiful piece with an appropriately awe-inspiring slideshow :)

The Adagio in G minor for violin, strings and organ continuo, is a neo-Baroque composition popularly attributed to the 18th century Venetian master Tomaso Albinoni, but in fact composed almost entirely by the 20th century musicologist and Albinoni biographer Remo Giazotto.

B. B. King - The Thrill Is Gone (From B. B. King - Live at Montreux 1993)

For more info -
http://www.eagle-rock.com/artist/5465E9/BB+King

B.B. King is the greatest living exponent of the blues and considered by many to be the most influential guitarist of the latter part of the 20th century. His career dates back to the late forties and despite now being in his eighties he remains a vibrant and charismatic live performer. B.B. King has been a frequent visitor to the Montreux festival, appearing nearly 20 times, so choosing one performance was no easy task. This 1993 concert will surely rank as one of his finest at any venue. With a superb backing band and a great set list its a must for any blues fan.

PLEASE DON'T GO

Babe, I love you so
I want you to know
that I'm going to miss your love
the minute you walk out that door

so please don't go
don't go, don't go away
please don't go
don't go, I'm begging you to stay

If you live, at least in my life time
I had one dream come true
I was blessed to be loved
by someone as wonderful as you

Hey hey hey
I need your love
I'm down on my knees
beggin' please please
please don't go
don't you hear me baby
don't leave me now
oh no no no don't go

Lost without your love- Bread

Bread was a late 60s/70s rock/pop band from Los Angeles, California. They were one of the most popular rock groups of the early 1970s, a primary example of what later was labeled "soft rock", releasing a string of well-crafted, melodic soft rock singles.
The band consisted of David Gates, Jimmy Griffin, Robb Royer, Mike Botts, and Larry Knechtel.
Gates, Griffin, and Royer joined together in 1968 and signed with Elektra Records choosing the name Bread in 1969. Gates and Griffin had both worked with Royer's previous band, The Pleasure Fair. Bread's first single, "Dismal Day", was released in June 1969 but did not chart. Their debut album, Bread, was released in September 1969 and peaked at #127 on the Billboard 200. Songwriting on the album was split evenly between Gates and the team of Griffin-Royer. Jim Gordon, a top session player, accompanied the band on drums for the album.
Bread became a quartet with their second album, On the Waters (peaking at #12 on the Billboard 200), bringing in Botts as drummer. This time their efforts quickly established Bread as a major act, hitting the mainstream with the Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit "Make It with You" in 1970. "Make It With You" would be Bread's only number one hit on the Hot 100.
For their next single, they released a re-recorded version of "It Don't Matter to Me", a Gates song from their first album. This single was a hit as well, reaching #10. Bread began touring and recording the 1971 album titled Manna (#21), which included the Top 5 hit single, "If". As with the first album, songwriting credits were split evenly between Gates and Griffin-Royer.
Royer left the group after three albums; although, he would continue to write with Griffin—and was replaced by Knechtel, a leading session player from the Los Angeles scene. In January 1972, Bread released Baby I'm-a Want You, their most successful album, peaking at #3 on the Billboard 200. The title song was established as a hit in late 1971 before the album was released, also hitting #3. Follow-up singles "Everything I Own" and "Diary" also went top-20. The next album, Guitar Man, was released ten months later and went to #18. The album produced three top-15 singles, "The Guitar Man" (#11), "Sweet Surrender" (#15), and "Aubrey" (#15), with the first two going to #1 on Billboard's adult contemporary chart. The band would have a total of four #1 singles on this chart; "If" and "Baby I'm-a Want You" had also reached the top of the adult contemporary chart during their respective chart runs.

LYRICS:

Lost and all alone
I always thought that I could make it on my own
Since you left I hardly make it through the day
My tears get in the way
And I need you back to stay

I wander through the night
And search the world to find
The words to make it right
All I want is just the way it used to be
With you here close to me
I've got to make you see

That I'm lost without your love
Life without you isn't worth the trouble of
I'm as helpless as a ship without a wheel
A touch without a feel
I can't believe it's real...

And someday soon I'll wake
And find my heart won't have to break

Yes I'm lost without your love
Life without you isn't worth the trouble of
All I want is just the way it used to be
I need you here with me
Oh darlin' can't you see...
If we had love before
We can have it back once more

Lyrics

You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I want to hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you

Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothing else to compare
The thought of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak
So if you feel like I feel
Please let me know that it's real
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you

I love you baby and if it's quite all right
I need you baby to warm the lonely nights
I love you baby, trust in me when I say
I love you baby, don't bring me down I pray
I love you baby, now that I've found you stay

And let me love you baby, let me love you...

You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I want to hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off of you

I love you baby and if it's quite all right
I need you baby to warm the lonely nights
I love you baby, trust in me when I say
I love you baby, don't bring me down I pray

ANTONIO VIVALDI ~AUTUMN~ (full)

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) is known for his inspirational songs called "The Four Seasons". "Spring" ("La primavera"), "Summer" ("L'estate"), "Autumn" / "Fall" ("L'autunno") and "Winter" ("L'inverno") are some of the his most popular creations and they were written to go along with four sonnets called, of course, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

Autumn Sonnet:
"Celebrates the peasant, with songs and dances,
The pleasure of a bountiful harvest.
And fired up by Bacchus' liquor, many end their revelry in sleep.
Everyone is made to forget their cares and to sing and dance
By the air which is tempered with pleasure
And (by) the season that invites so many, many
Out of their sweetest slumber to fine enjoyment
The hunters emerge at the new dawn,
And with horns and dogs and guns depart upon their hunting
The beast flees and they follow its trail;
Terrified and tired of the great noise
Of guns and dogs, the beast, wounded, threatens
Languidly to flee, but harried, dies."

***Notes***
I wish I knew which orchestra performed it, but I don't know, I'm sorry.

Vivaldi - Trio Sonata "La Follia" in D Minor RV63

ANTONIO VIVALDI (1678-1741)

Trio sonata for two violins and basso continuo (Variations on "La Follia") Op. 1 No. 12 RV63

Performed by Hesperion XXI
Conducted by Jordi Savall

*"La Folia" is one of the oldest European musical themes. This chord progression has been put to music many times by composers such as Arcangelo Corelli, C.P.E. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Allesandro Scarlatti, and Marin Marais.

http://www.folias.nl/html1.html

P.S: I know I already posted this piece being performed by the Purcell Quartet, but the Hesperion XXI version is very exciting to listen to and takes a different perspective on this pice although being perhaps more "liberal" in it's interpretation.

Stevie Ray Vaughan Honey Bee.wmv

Stevie Ray Vaghan acquired Number One in 1973 from a shop in Austin. He liked the tobacco-sunburst finish and the thick rosewood D-neck (Stevie had large hands, so thin necks presented a problem for him). Number One originally had a while pickguard, a right-handed tremelo bar and 1959 pickups. Stevie eventually replaced the while pickguard with a black one and added the familiar "SVR" lettering. The tremelo unit was replaed with a gold left-handed unit in 1977. Stevie had always emulated Jimi Hendrix and Otis Rush, both of who were left-handed and played right-handed guitars turned upside down...Information found at stevieray.info Please go there for additional facts about Stevie Ray...

Fight The Good Fight

FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT
Words and music by RIK EMMETT

The days grow shorter and the nights are getting long
Feels like we're running out of time
Every day it seems much harder tellin' right from wrong
You got to read between the lines

Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can
Make it through another day
Make it worth the price we pay

The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive
I do my best to do my part
Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve
I keep my magic in my heart

Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby
I am counting on you
You know what you've got to do

CHORUS:
Fight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
It's your only way

All your life you've been waiting for your chance
Where you'll fit into the plan
But you're the master of your own destiny
So give and take the best that you can

You think a little more money will buy your soul some rest
You'd better think of something else instead
You're so afraid of being honest with yourself
You'd better take a look inside your head

Nothing is easy, nothing good is free
But I can tell you where to start
Take a look inside your heart
There's an answer in your heart

CHORUS

Milton Nascimento & Lô Borges - O Trem Azul

O Trem Azul

Frases que o vento vem as vezes me lembrar

Coisas que o vento vem as vezes me lembrar

My skin is black
My arms are long
My hair is wooly
My back is strong
Strong enough to take the pain
Its been inflicted again and again
What do they call me
My name is AUNT SARAH
My name is Aunt Sarah

My skin is yellow
My hair is long
Between two worlds
I do belong
My father was rich and white
He forced my mother late one night
What do they call me
My name is SIFFRONIA
My name is Siffronia

My skin is tan
My hairs alright, its fine
My hips invite you
And my lips are like wine
Whose little girl am I?
Well yours if you have some money to buy
What do they call me
My name is SWEET THING
My name is Sweet Thing

My skin is brown
And my manner is tough
Ill kill the first mother I see
Cos my life has been too rough
Im awfully bitter these days
because my parents were slaves
What do they call me
My
name
is
PEACHES

Chico Buarque - Eu Te Amo (Carioca Ao Vivo)

E o meu sapato inda pisa no teu

Tom Jobim
Composição : Tom Jobim & Miucha

Pela Luz dos Olhos Teus
Tom Jobim e Miucha

(Ela canta)
Quando a luz dos olhos meus
E a luz dos olhos teus
Resolvem se encontrar

Ai, que bom que isso é meu Deus
Que frio que me dá o encontro desse olhar

Mas se a luz dos olhos teus
Resiste aos olhos meus
Só pra me provocar

Meu amor juro por Deus
Me sinto incendiar

(Ele canta)

Só pra me provocar

Meu amor juro por Deus
Me sinto incendiar

GoodBye Stranger by SuperTramp

Kleiton e Kledir

Paixão
Kleiton e Kledir
Composição : Kleiton & Kledir

Amo tua voz e tua cor
E teu jeito de fazer amor
Revirando os olhos e o tapete
Suspirando em falsete
Coisas que eu nem sei contar...

Ser feliz é tudo que se quer
Ah! Esse maldito fecheclair
De repente
A gente rasga a roupa
E uma febre muito louca
Faz o corpo arrepiar...

Depois do terceiro
Ou quarto copo
Tudo que vier eu topo
Tudo que vier, vem bem
Quando bebo perco o juízo
Não me responsabilizo
Nem por mim
Nem por ninguém...

Não quero ficar na tua vida
Como uma paixão mal resolvida
Dessas que a gente tem ciúme
E se encharca de perfume
Faz que tenta se matar...

Vou ficar até o fim do dia
Decorando tua geografia
E essa aventura
Em carne e osso
Deixa marcas no pescoço
Faz a gente levitar...

Tens um não sei que
De paraíso
E o corpo mais preciso
Que o mais lindo dos mortais
Tens uma beleza infinita
E a boca mais bonita
Que a minha já tocou...

The Troggs - Wild Thing

I wonder where Austin Powers got his inspiration from?
The Troggs formed in 1964 and were signed by the manager of The Kinks, Larry Page in 1965. Their most famous hit was the single "Wild Thing" (written by Chip Taylor), which with the help of television exposure on Thank Your Lucky Stars reached number 2 in the UK and number 1 in the United States in June 1966. Its combination of a simple heavy guitar riff and flirtatious lyrics helped it to quickly become a garage rock standard. It was recorded in one complete take (take two) at Olympic Studios in London, with Keith Grant engineering. The band's success in the US was also limited by not touring there until 1968.
